Texas A&M announced Thursday that it will wear maroon helmets, white jerseys and white pants Saturday, Oct. 10, at No. 14 Missouri, where the 3-2 Aggies will test whether their 34-7 win over Arkansas marked a real turnaround.

Coach Mike Elko credited the response after consecutive losses to Kentucky and LSU. “Proud of the response. Challenged the guys to come out and play physical and control the line of scrimmage,” Elko said.

The Aggies rushed for 231 yards and four touchdowns against Arkansas. Missouri, 4-1 after a 45-17 win over Florida, piled up 560 yards in that game. Texas A&M’s SEC championship hopes and season momentum now face a much stronger test.

01 · The Detail Beneath the HeadlineWhat Most People Are Missing

Texas A&M returns to Columbia in a sharply different position from its 38-17 victory there last season. The Aggies finished 2025 at 11-2 and 7-1 in the SEC; they arrive Saturday already 1-2 in conference play. Beating Arkansas stopped the two-game slide, but it did not erase the standings cost of the Kentucky and LSU losses.

The schedule makes Missouri the pivot. A win would level Texas A&M’s SEC record at 2-2 before The Citadel visits Oct. 17 and the Aggies travel to Alabama on Oct. 24. A loss would make it 1-3, with three conference defeats after losing once in SEC play throughout 2025. The maroon helmets frame the reveal; the 2025-to-2026 swing is the larger story in Columbia.

02 · The Open QuestionsQuestions to Be Answered

1

Can Texas A&M’s Arkansas rushing performance travel to Columbia?

The Aggies got 66 rushing yards and a touchdown from Marcel Reed within their 231-yard, four-touchdown ground game against Arkansas. Missouri can force a different game script after producing 560 yards against Florida. The Oct. 10 rushing total, Reed’s share of it and his passing line are the cleanest measures of whether that offensive response survived the move from home to Columbia.

2

Can Texas A&M keep Austin Simmons from controlling the game?

Simmons threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns as Missouri accumulated 560 yards against Florida. That production presents a different test from the Arkansas game and puts the burden on Texas A&M to generate pressure. Simmons’ passing total and the frequency with which Missouri sustains drives on Oct. 10 will show whether the Aggies can carry defensive momentum into the Oct. 24 trip to Alabama.
